BTCPay Server requires Docker users to opt into Tor access

Operators of BTCPay Server using Docker deployments must explicitly select Tor during their next update to maintain onion network functionality.

Bitcoin payment processing software BTCPay Server is changing how it deploys the Tor privacy network for Docker users, according to CryptoSlate and KuCoin. System operators who deploy the software through its standard Docker setup must explicitly opt into Tor during their next installation or update to retain onion access. [1][2]

CryptoSlate reported that the update removes Tor from the software's default bundled components, turning the service into an explicit administrator configuration choice. BTCPay detailed the deployment changes in an announcement on October 5. [1]

Existing installations will preserve their saved Tor data despite the structural change, CryptoSlate noted. However, node operators who do not actively select Tor during maintenance will lose onion access. The update also introduces separate technical restrictions regarding private-service HTTP requests.
