Tokenized stocks lack standard trading protections under SEC exemption guidelines

Tokenized stocks carrying full shareholder rights under a recent SEC exemption may still lack standard trading venue protections, according to a report from CryptoSlate.

Tokenized stocks that qualify for an exemption granted by the Securities and Exchange Commission in September must maintain equivalent shareholder rights, CryptoSlate reported. However, the trading venues that list these digital assets can operate without key Regulation NMS safeguards, leaving order pricing and execution protocols distinct from traditional public equity markets. [1]

Market data provider Douro Labs submitted a request to Securities and Exchange Commission staff on October 9, CryptoSlate reported. Douro Labs, which contributes to the Pyth Network, requested provider neutral principles to evaluate external price feeds used for dollar denominated reporting. [1]

Stocks represent fractional ownership in a corporation, which entitles the holder to a proportional share of earnings, asset proceeds, or voting power. These legal entitlements remain linked to tokenized shares even when the venue protections differ from traditional markets. [1][2]

CryptoSlate noted that broker responsibilities for Financial Industry Regulatory Authority members remain separate from venue level safeguards. Investors must evaluate both underlying equity rights and the execution mechanisms of individual trading venues. [1]
