Ethereum developers launched the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet on Tuesday at 1:53 pm UTC, Cointelegraph and The Defiant reported. Ethereum community contributor Pooja Ranjan announced the deployment in a post on X, according to Cointelegraph. The activation serves as one of the final major network rehearsals prior to the upgrade being implemented on the Ethereum mainnet. [1][2][5]
The upgrade is designed to improve Ethereum layer-1 scaling through enshrined proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists, and modifications to gas pricing, Cointelegraph reported. The Defiant reported that the first two upgraded epochs finalized successfully following activation. [1][2][5]
Outlets offered differing details regarding the gas limit target during the testnet deployment. CoinDesk, The Defiant, Crypto News, and BigGo Finance reported that the test involves increasing capacity toward a 200 million gas limit per block. The Defiant noted that early blocks started a gradual climb from 60 million toward the 200 million target, while CryptoTicker stated that Glamsterdam went live with 64 million gas instead of 200 million. [3][4][5][8][10]
Hours before the test, one of Ethereum's main validator clients issued a software update, CoinDesk reported. BigGo Finance identified the client patch as a last-minute update for Prysm ahead of the testnet activation. [3][10]
