Bitcoin gained 43 percent in its best third quarter performance since 2017, but rising United States Treasury yields above 5 percent may hinder further gains.

Bitcoin gained 43 percent in the third quarter of 2026, marking its best third-quarter performance since 2017, according to reporting by Cointelegraph, bloomingbit, and Crypto Briefing. Weak United States jobs data has narrowed market expectations for another Federal Reserve interest rate hike in October, providing some relief for the cryptocurrency as investors embrace debasement trades. [1][2][8][9][11]

Extending the rally may prove difficult as United States Treasury yields above 5 percent present investors with an increasingly attractive risk-free alternative, Cointelegraph and Bitget reported. Delphi Digital stated that when a government bond pays over 5 percent risk-free, every risky asset must work harder to deserve capital. Crypto Briefing reported that Treasury yields reached their highest levels since 2007 during the period. [1][2][8][11]

In corporate treasury moves, Bitcoin News reported that Strive purchased 2,000 Bitcoin, while Strategy acquired 334 Bitcoin to bring its total treasury holdings to 848,000. Additionally, Bitcoin Magazine reported that Japanese firm Metaplanet sold 10,000 Bitcoin before repurchasing 11,000 coins last quarter to demonstrate liquidity and strengthen confidence in the company.
