Representative Bill Huizenga lost his reelection bid to Democratic candidate Sean McCann in Michigan's 4th Congressional District, Bitcoin Magazine reported. The Associated Press called the race after McCann secured 50.1% of the vote against 48.3% for Huizenga, with more than 97% of votes counted. The vote tally showed a gap of roughly 7,000 votes out of nearly 300,000 ballots cast. [1]

Huizenga served as the vice chair and second-ranking Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, Bitcoin Magazine reported. Crypto political action committee Fairshake backed the eight-term congressman with approximately $1 million in campaign expenditure. BitKE, CoinDesk, and the Block reported that other committee members including Steil, Wagner, Nunn, and Lawler also lost their seats. [1][2][3][7]

The election loss represents a defeat for Fairshake, which is an industry-funded super PAC backed by major contributors such as Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, according to Wikipedia. CoinDesk reported that more than one-third of the political action committee's overall campaign spending failed to achieve its objectives during the election cycle. [3][12]

The political outcome comes as control of Congress shifts following the midterms. CryptoTicker.io, The Defiant, and TokenPost reported that Democrats secured a majority in the House of Representatives. The Defiant added that the incoming majority will assume control of key committee assignments and oversight powers, while market legislation including the CLARITY Act remains stalled on the Senate floor.
