French cryptocurrency wallet manufacturer Ledger introduced its new mobile hardware device, named Ledger Atom, on October 15, CryptoSlate, Protos, and Cointelegraph reported. The company is accepting refundable 100 dollar deposits for a Founders Edition priced at 849 dollars, with deliveries targeted for 2027 or summer 2027, according to CryptoSlate and Cointelegraph. The device combines everyday applications with hardware-protected crypto transactions and includes new anti-tamper protections. [1][2][3][4]

The product unveiling coincided with investigations into physical supply chain security breaches. CryptoSlate and Cointelegraph both reported that Ledger is investigating tampered hardware wallets containing malicious implants that were sold through an authorized reseller in Asia. Protos reported that the security breach resulted in an 86 million dollar draining hack and led Ledger to suspend multiple resellers. [1][2][3][4]

The timing of the announcement drew widespread criticism online. Protos reported that social media users on platform X criticized the company for failing to read the room and calling the launch announcement the worst timing ever, coming just days after the security incident was confirmed. [2]
