SK Hynix reported record third quarter financial results on October 28, 2026, driven by intense demand for artificial intelligence memory chips. Decrypt, the Korea IT Times, and Kaohoon International all report that the South Korean chipmaker recorded an operating profit of 83.3 trillion won. Decrypt and Kaohoon International report that quarterly revenue passed 100 trillion won for the first time, reaching 104.6 trillion won. [1][3][4]

The company reported that its quarterly revenue rose 328 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, according to Decrypt. Operating profit increased by 632 percent year on year, delivering an operating margin of 80 percent. SK Hynix reported that its DRAM and high bandwidth memory products are completely sold out through 2029, and the firm projects that global memory demand will continue to outpace supply through 2030. [1]

A global memory supply shortage began in 2025 due to supply constraints and rapid price escalation across the DRAM and NAND flash markets. Media outlets have referred to the deficit as RAMmageddon or the RAMpocalypse. Unlike earlier pandemic supply chain disruptions, the ongoing deficit stems from manufacturers reallocating capacity toward artificial intelligence data center products, causing scarcity in broader enterprise and consumer markets. Following the earnings announcement, shares of semiconductor equipment and chip companies gained value ahead of major technology earnings reports, NDTV Profit reported. Micron Technology and Advanced Micro Devices both saw their stock prices rise by 4 percent in subsequent trading. [2]
