Coinbase reported mixed financial results for the third quarter of 2026 as total revenue fell short of market expectations and active user numbers declined. Bitcoin Magazine Markets reported that revenue reached 1.20 billion dollars, missing the 1.233 billion dollars expected by analysts. The Chronicle Journal reported that third quarter sales beat estimates. Bitcoin Magazine Markets also reported that monthly transacting users dropped to 7.4 million, down from 9.3 million a year earlier. [1][6]

Despite the overall revenue shortfall, recurring revenue streams showed growth. According to Bitcoin Magazine Markets, subscription and services revenue rose to 570 million dollars. The Defiant reported that average USDC balances in Coinbase products reached a record 22 billion dollars. The Defiant also reported that adjusted net income stood at 77.7 million dollars, compared to the 719 million dollars reported. [1][2]

The company is also facing executive stock dispositions. According to The Defiant, Chief Executive Officer Brian Armstrong adopted a trading plan to sell up to 1.31 billion dollars in shares. The Defiant added that executives Fred Ehrsam and Emilie Choi also adopted share sale plans with trading windows extending into 2027. [3]

The financial results follow ongoing operational developments at the cryptocurrency exchange. As FTMQ Crypto reported earlier, Coinbase previously stated that a full Bitcoin quantum migration could take years to complete. Earlier testing by the exchange also revealed that newer artificial intelligence models missed a larger share of fraudulent payments during historical transaction screening. [10][11]
