Starknet is actively considering becoming an independent layer one blockchain, according to a statement posted by the project on social media platform X. Decrypt reported that the Ethereum scaling network, which was built by StarkWare, is weighing the transition in an effort to create a fully quantum-resistant network by 2027. KuCoin also reported that the project is considering separating from Ethereum. [1][2][3]
Following the announcement, the project token STRK experienced a rapid price increase. Decrypt and Yahoo Finance both reported that the token jumped about 20 percent in 24 hours to trade around $0.073 on Friday. Coin Gabbar reported that the token jumped 40 percent following the announcement of the plan. [1][2][4][5]
The current price level is more than double the valuation of roughly $0.03 recorded in April, according to Decrypt. That earlier low coincided with a period when developer StarkWare reduced its workforce to focus on generating revenue. [2]
Starknet stated that if the transition proceeds, the project aims to establish itself as the first fully quantum-resistant network. The team has set 2027 as its target date to complete the move to a layer one architecture. [2][3]
