Three companies have notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission of their intention to operate venues for trading tokenized stocks, according to an announcement by the regulator on Wednesday. Bitcoin Magazine Markets reported that the applicant firms are Tokenized Stock Venue, Perpetuals.com, and the crypto exchange OKX. The regulatory notice follows a ruling in September, when the regulator announced a five-year exemption for tokenized securities platforms. [1]
According to Bitcoin Magazine Markets, OKX partnered with the Intercontinental Exchange to be among the first entities filing with the regulator. The two entities submitted plans to debut tokenized securities trading on a new platform designated as OKXICE. Stocks represent fractional equity ownership in a corporation, which typically entitles owners to dividend distributions and voting privileges. [1][5]
As FTMQ Crypto reported earlier, tokenized stocks operating under the SEC exemption guidelines must preserve equivalent shareholder rights. However, venues facilitating the trading of these tokenized assets are permitted to operate outside core Regulation NMS market protections. Previous market filings also show that external entities, including Douro Labs, requested guidance from the regulator regarding price feed standards for these instruments. [8]
