Bitcoin fell toward 76,000 dollars on Thursday afternoon following a decline in United States technology stocks. Bitcoin Magazine Markets and TMGM both reported that Bitcoin traded near or below 76,000 dollars as the Nasdaq Composite entered a correction. According to Bitcoin Magazine Markets, Bitcoin fell more than 5% on the day after sliding through the mid-75,000 dollar range. CryptoSlate reported that Bitcoin reached an intraday low of 75,568 dollars before recovering slightly to 76,830.67 dollars. [1][2][4]

The price drop triggered significant liquidations across digital asset derivative markets. Bitcoin Magazine Markets reported that leveraged derivative liquidations surpassed 1 billion dollars during the selloff. The fall reversed gains from earlier in the trading session, when Bitcoin had traded above 80,000 dollars overnight. [1]

The crypto market selloff coincided with broader equity market declines driven by technology and artificial intelligence equities. TMGM and CryptoSlate both reported that the Nasdaq index dropped by nearly 5%. CryptoSlate reported that concerns regarding artificial intelligence capital expenditures intensified following a Democratic midterm sweep, contributing to a 2.5 trillion dollar decline in equity market valuations. [2][4]

Macroeconomic factors earlier in the day also weighed on digital asset markets. Bitcoin Magazine reported that Bitcoin was trading near 79,600 dollars on Thursday morning after slipping below 80,000 dollars. According to Bitcoin Magazine, that price action followed a rebound in crude oil prices and a decision by the Bank of England to raise its main interest rate to 4%. [3]

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and digital asset that relies on cryptography to govern its creation and management instead of a central authority. Designed originally as a medium of exchange, it is now primarily used as a store of value. [12]
