Bitcoin price resistance near 87,000 dollars has been reinforced by investors who acquired the asset in late 2025, according to research from onchain analytics platform Glassnode reported by Crypto Briefing, Cointelegraph, and Coinfomania. Cointelegraph reported that investors sitting on unrealised losses are capping upside price gains at 87,700 dollars. The breakeven point for this cohort of new Bitcoin holders is currently acting as a primary resistance level. [1][2][3][4]
Cointelegraph noted that two distinct groups of holders have prevented BTC from moving higher whenever the market challenges their acquisition cost basis since the start of the year. In November 2025, Bitcoin lost the cost basis of investors who made entries between six and 12 months prior. These top buyers are selling as prices approach their initial entry levels to avoid further losses. [3][4]
Downside price movement is currently being counterbalanced by institutional demand. Cointelegraph reported that exchange-traded fund inflows are strengthening price support at the 80,000 dollar level, keeping the asset trading within a defined range. [3][4]
